Nancy Palmer Payne

Following our graduation from SUNY Geneseo in 1969 with BA degrees in Anthropology, Gary and I moved to Madison, WI, so he could pursue graduate studies. While living in Madison, I worked as a Project Specialist in a UW Molecular Biology lab involved in aspects of cancer research for 3 years. In 1973 we moved to Eagle, a small community approximately 45 miles southwest of Milwaukee and where we still reside. The State Historical Society of WI was building Old World Wisconsin, an outdoor ethnic museum in Eagle and Gary was one of the first hired and involved in research, planning and community relations for the museum. I also worked in the research and community relations areas. In 1976 I settled into what was to be my main career and at the end of December 2010 retired from the State of WI Department of Natural Resources after 34 years. As a Water Supply Specialist in the Drinking Water and Groundwater Program, I worked with both large and small public residential water systems inspecting for code compliance and providing technical expertise and educational outreach for groundwater professionals.

Now retired we remain actively involved in local service organizations and volunteer on numerous projects. At least once a year we return to the Victor/Rochester area to visit family in the Upstate New York region. It is always interesting to note the changes and what remains unchanged in the greater Victor area. We also enjoy keeping in touch with our daughter, son-in-law, and our one-year old grandson via Skype. Our daughter, a Lieutenant in the US Navy is a nurse currently stationed in Japan about an hour from Tokyo.
