This is a recent photo of Susan, her older brother, Bob (VCS ’64), and Bob’s daughters - three sisters who were adopted from Russia in 2008. That makes Bob an even older parent (of even younger children) than our own John Bay!

Bio for Susan Harris

Susan has had a long (45 years) and fulfilling career as a physical therapist, having conducted teaching and research at three large universities: U. of Washington, U. of Wisconsin, and U. of British Columbia. One of her most important research contributions was a small, community-based study that showed that women living with breast cancer who had undergone lymph node surgery as part of their cancer staging were able to safely partake in vigorous, repetitive upper body exercise. Subsequently, larger and more rigorous studies supported this tentative hypothesis and now the millions of women living with breast cancer around the world can safely do exercises that were previously contra-indicated by medical professionals.

Susan has lived in Vancouver, BC since 1990 and is a dual citizen (Canada/US). Because her four siblings and many of her nieces and nephews (all VCS graduates) still live in the Victor area, she comes home often, especially to spend time at their family cottage on Canandaigua Lake.
